Dr. Tina Ellenbogen received her DVM from the University of California at Davis in 1979, serving as an associate in mixed practice, urban emergency and small animal practices, and as Information Services Director for the Delta Society from 1986-1991. She has operated Mobile Veterinary Services, her exclusively housecall and consulting practice based in Bothell, WA since July 1987, and while wellpet care, esp. for multiple-pet households and geriatric pets continues to be a big part of the practice, she sees an increasing demand for in-home hospice and palliative care. In the fall of 1997 she completed special pet loss counseling training at Colorado State University's CHANGES program and also trained with her local hospice, where she has volunteered since 1998.
Dr. Ellenbogen was chosen as a UC Davis Don Low Practitioner fellow and completed this month-long fellowship in Jan. 2000 focusing on Internal Medicine, and working with the Pet Loss Hotline. In recognition of her interest in wellness care, and the human-animal bond, Dr. Ellenbogen has provided a monthly well-pet clinic at the local senior center since May 1988.
The workshop “Comfort and Care for Aging and Ill Pets” was developed as a public education course with a social worker and offered at local community colleges; there is a CE version for WA veterinarians.
“Pets, Poetry and Pawprints” an annual community event celebrating and honoring the animals in our lives was inaugurated in 1999.
Dr. Ellenbogen participated in the inaugural Pet Hospice Symposium in March 2008, is an advisory board member of Pet Hospice (www.pethospice.org), and helped bring to WA state an annual, unique weekend seminar focusing on animal hospice care. (www.spiritsintransition.org)
She is a founding member of the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care – launching in mid-2009 (www.IAAHPC.org)
These and other involvements have heightened Dr. Ellenbogen's interest in the human-animal bond and her holistic approach to veterinary medicine, helping clients seek personalized solutions to veterinary challenges, as well as offering community education, client support and collaboration and consultation with colleagues.
